Whirl of a Weekend: Art Trade

This past weekend was fantastic, crazy, but fantastic!

It started off with a low key Friday. I went to visit my Nana in the hospital. While I was away, my adorable, sweet and amazing husband cleaned my entire studio and closet! It was a horrendous mess, and I was overwhelmed! My dad is coming to build out my closet soon, and I was in disarray trying to get it cleaned out and cleaned up. Organization is not my forte, but my husband is AMAZING and handled it all! It was such a sweet surprise when I got home. I had a very hard week, and he was so thoughtful and kind. It reminded me why I married him 5 years ago this month! (the 29th) I'll post pictures of it when my dad builds out my closet. I can't wait!

On Saturday I woke up and went to the gym to meet my trainer. Saturday 8am training sessions are rough. Then I headed to Big D for a haircut, and met me sweet friend Courtney and her little girl Callie for some shopping. I scored this fun sequin pencil skirt from Jcrew and a cute navy top that I couldn't find a pic of...I also got this shirt from the Gap. I love a tux shirt... I can't help it! I also got some really soft black lounge pants. I've lost a little weight lately, and even my pajama/lounge pants are too big! Good feeling!!
After some great shopping and girl time, I headed to the RISING Gallery for their PINK2010 show! I had had a solo show earlier this year at Rising, and had a great time at their Pink event last year. This year I donated Olivia the Owl to the show, which was a charity event benefiting breast cancer. Olivia sold to a sweet woman who was going to give her to a breast cancer survivor living in Kansas. I love this show! The Wetz brothers do a fabulous job honoring their mother who passed away from breast cancer. Great show!
While I was there I made my first artist trade with the beautiful and talented Gina Marie Dunn! I feel in love with her Gladiolas, and she was interested in a longhorn painting for her UT obsessed husband, so we worked a trade deal! I am in LOVE with my gladiolas painting called "The Gift," and her husband was so excited about his longhorn! It was such a neat experience! I hope to trade again one day! I was equally excited to actually meet Gina and her husband at the show. Such a sweet couple, and she is so talented!!!
Sunday was supposed to be a low key day, so I thought! Greg and I slept in because I was beat from my late night Dallas adventure, and then we decided it would be a good idea to take 3 of our 4 dogs on a walking excursion to the nearby UT Tyler campus... well the campus was a little ways further away than we thought! Our 3 little dogs, especially the chihuahua Holly were exhausted! We had to take several water breaks, and Greg ended up having to go get the car to pick me, Holly and Oscar up. They were spent! Walking for 2 hours with 3 small dogs- not a good idea! They sure slept well though!
It was a great weekend, and I can't wait until NEXT weekend! We have some fun things planned!!!

This is Judge the Longhorn. Justin and Elizabeth Sparks wanted a longhorn for Justin's Fort Worth law office. They loved the NYLO cow and wondered if I could duplicate it- I was surprised by how close I got! Glad to know I can make more :)
Me and my hotty hubby at the Main Street Gallery art show this Saturday. My horses made the show! YAY!
I finally got a little bit of pink hair! It's on my shoulder like a butterfly :) I might want more next time! I think I got it because I could. I have no one to tell me I can't have pink hair anymore! I'm an artist- it is kind of expected right!?

A Day with Katie Rose and More Art

On Sunday, I headed BACK to the Dallas area for yet another art show. I got juried into the Irving Art Association's Wildlife Show. I decided that my sweet 9 year old niece Katie Rose needed to go with me! She is an animal lover like me. She was also really sad she couldn't go with her mom to the Pink event the night before!

First we headed to lunch at La Madeline. It is a favorite of mine, and now is a favorite of Katie's! She still likes the Tarzan Caffe (Caffe Tazza) better though! She got just about everything on the menu, and we had a GREAT time!

Then we headed to the show. I was honestly surprised I got in. It was a very tight and realistic show. My work is much more modern. It is a very respected show, so I was thrilled to have made the cut! Only 70 out of 200+ made it in the show. I just had this little feeling that mine was not like the others, oh well. I guess someone liked it!Me and Katie with my Wild Buffalo

This piece won best of show- it was bananas and in colored pencil!

This artist won the painting division and is from California! This painting won the President's award.A watercolor...

More of the show...

After the show we stopped and did a little shopping. Katie is such a nut! Love her to pieces!

Think PINK!

This past Saturday I headed to Dallas (Knox Henderson) for the Rising Gallery's PINK art event. I donated my Cow Love painting to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Breast Cancer is near and dear because my sweet Memaw beat it twice. My sister Julie, bestie Heidi and our friend Summer all came with me. We had a LOT of fun!

Me and Dr. Heidi with Cow Love... Cow Love brought in some serious dough! I couldn't have been happier!

They had boob cupcakes- TOO FUNNY.

Heidi loves the boob cupcakes... I think she had a few!

Gallery owners and brothers, Bryan and Taber Wetz, wore pink converse to honor their mother who died 10 years ago after her battle with breast cancer. She would be so proud of them!

P.S. I am showing my work at this gallery in April. I am SO EXCITED.

New Abstracts and Caffe Tazza Art Show Photos!

The owner of Caffe Tazza, Jane Keller, told me she was looking for a couple of matching gold and white paintings for her home. At the show Thursday, she had on the most gorgeous color gold top and mixed with all sorts of gold crystal and beaded necklaces. She totally inspired me to paint these two abstracts. They are hers if she wants them, otherwise they are $400 each if anyone is interested. They are both 30"x40", and if no one buys them I might have to redo my living room! Sorry about the poor photos, I will take better ones outside tomorrow. They are still damp.

I had an AMAZING turnout at my show on Thursday! I love seeing everyone!! My family always comes and my sweet friends always come support me. Caffe Tazza also makes the BEST latte I've ever had, an oh so tasty cheese plate and the most AMAZING carrot cake ever! Greg and I even went back this morning. It is our favorite place to go!

YUM! The ceramic hand-painted Italian coffee cups add so much luxury to their tasty lattes!

Me and my greatest supporter- my hubby!

Me and Tish! Love her hair and that she walks around with library books! :)
