Sunshine Wall Bursts

I jacked this from CasaSugar, but I loved it!Since I was recently fawning over that ceiling medallion light, I couldn't help but stop in my tracks when I came across these ceiling medallions used as wall art. Do It Yourself offered up this creative idea in its collection of quick home projects. The lightweight urethane medallions were simply painted in subtly varying shades of yellow and easily mounted on the wall of this living room. The medallions are affordable, around $20 to $30, so it's quite an attainable way to bring "art" into your home. Another thought? Pick up a medallion with a circular opening in the center, and have a glass cutter make you a round mirror to size, and you'll have an ornate mirror at a fractional price.

Much A Buzz...

Well, Tim Burton is making an Alice in Wonderland movie. I don't think he can top Disney's, but it will be interesting to see. (I have loved the Disney version since birth.) Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and Johnnie Depp are already cast... I wonder who will be Alice? I am going to volunteer to be the very late rabbit.

So Last Night...

Last night I went to the Tyler Chamber Awards dinner. It was a swanky affair and my first time to attend. We got a heads up that our board member and sweet friend Shannon was receiving the big W.C. Windsor award, so we wanted to show a little support. She had no idea and hates surprises- so that made it even more fun since we were sitting at her table! Here is Shannon winning her big award. I couldn't think of a better person to win!

Here is a re-cap:
W.C. Windsor Award
The W.C. Windsor Award, which honors service among young citizens, was presented to attorney Shannon Dacus. The award was established in 1952 by the late Tyler civic leader W.C. Windsor to encourage the development of young leadership. The chamber presents the award to a Tyler resident between the ages of 21 and 40, who exhibits the greatest activity and achievement in community betterment.

Mrs. Dacus is an attorney with Ramey and Flock and graduate of Leadership Tyler class 19. She currently serves as marketing chair and board member of the East Texas Communities' Foundation and as family support chair and board member of Habitat for Humanity. She is also a board member of the Ninos de Promesa Preschool and on the executive committee of the women's fund of ETCF. She is a member of South Tyler Rotary and recently elected to the board of directors of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce.

"It's truly a privilege. It's undeserved and I only hope I can grow into this honor," Mrs. Dacus said as she accepted the award. "I'm only at this point because of the fabulous mentors I've had in this community."

Hooray and congrats Shannon!

So Excited...

Okay, I feel like a teenager, but I am way excited for this movie to come out. I am so making Greg take me!

Yummy!

When I got home from work I was in a baking mood. I didn't want to go to the store to get the ingredients I needed to make these tasty treats that I came across yesterday, so I decided to get creative at home.

I cleaned out my pantry a bit this weekend and came across a can of Libby's Pumpkin, like you would use to make pumpkin pie. I also came across a bag of dry Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix. This is the kind that you only need to add one stick of butter and an one egg to make sugar cookies to decorate.

Well, I decided I would mix half of the can (maybe a little more) of pumpkin and only half the butter to make some somewhat healthy Pumpkin Cookies. I used the full egg, and sprinkled a little cinnamon in the mix. I then dropped them in big chunks on the cookie sheet and sprinkled them with a little more cinnamon sugar. I popped them in the oven on 375 like the bag said, and cooked them for about 12 mins.
They came out kind of like a pumpkin scone but a little bit softer like a sugar cookie. They were great and oh so easy! It fulfilled my baking needs until Christmas... ha, just kidding!

Whirl of a Weekend!

Wow, what a crazy morning it has been in the stock market. Scary. My Foundation is trying to figure out what we can do to ease the minds of our donors- our money is invested for the long haul, but people still get nervous. Oh well, as my header says.... I don't like to think about such things in my blog world!

This weekend was oh so nice. Friday night Greg and I hung out and had our favorite Joe's Pizza. (Below are Mr. and Mrs. Joe ) I started painting and just hung out. I loved loved loved it. I like easy Friday nights, and we were both beat- perfect.

Saturday we woke up WAY to early and headed out to Canton for a little shopping. I didn't buy much, but Greg got some license plates. That is what keeps him occupied when we go to the Trade Days. He is trying to collect all 50 states and has them displayed on our shed. Whatever floats his boat! We headed home around lunch time and went to our favorite place in Tyler- Don Juans. Super yum. Then home so Greg could watch football, and I could paint. Later that night I ditched the football fanatic and went to Christie's for dinner and a movie. We watched the Notebook. I seriously love that movie. I could watch it a thousand times!

Sunday we were awfully naughty and didn't make it up for church, but we did head out for some tennis late in the morning. That was fun, but Greg is now way better than I will ever be (maybe) and it kind of ruined the joy of playing with him. Oh well, I need to find him a new tennis buddy. The rest of the day was spent running grocery errands and painting.

It was a good weekend. I have a feeling the next few won't be quite as restful. Ca va!

J-List: Super Cute Fall Flats

I have fallen in love with flats for fall. They are perfect for running around pumpkin patches, football stadium bleachers, flea market Saturdays and anywhere else where you need to be cute and comfortable. These are a few on my wish list right now:

Inspiration Trip to the Tyler Rose Garden

Yesterday after my 8-5 I went to the Tyler Rose Garden for a little inspiration. The roses aren't in full bloom yet, they should be by the Texas Rose Festival later this month, but it was still pretty. These are a few of my favorite photos. Look for them to become paintings this weekend!

Teal Appeal

I'm thinking of painting my formal living room teal. It is currently a dark blue, you can see it in my fall post, and I think it is getting boring.

I recently came across this beautiful room by David Jimenez on a Chi-Town Chic's blog and fell in love. I think I have enough random artwork around to pull off the back wall look too! What do you think?
